Athlone is a charming little town in County Westmeath built on the River Shannon which runs through the town. A true natural paradise for hikers, cyclists and water sports enthusiasts due to its proximity to the Lough Ree boating lake. Handicrafts are also doing well there and there are cozy and relaxed cafes and pubs.

Only 1 hour from Dublin, this small town retains its rural charm. In the very center of the island of Ireland, Athlone deserves its nickname “at the heart of it”, a heart of everything.

You can visit Baysports, an aquatic center on the lake where the biggest inflatable games in the world is located! Or take a tree-top adventure in the vast, lush forests at Lough Key Forest Park. Meet the Athlone llamas at Glendeer Pet Farm. Or if it is history and culture that attracts you, the visit to the medieval castle of Athlone or the tour on the Viking boat are the must-see events.
